Fire Ravages Kwara University Offices, Destroys Crucial Records

According to Ireporter Online, a fire outbreak on Friday evening gutted several offices at the Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin, destroying official records including files, documents, and journals. The incident occurred around 9:14 pm in a building comprising four offices, three of which were affected by the blaze. The university’s biology laboratory was also reportedly at risk.

The fire is believed to have started after an unidentified individual set dry bushes ablaze, which subsequently spread to the building. Firefighters responded promptly to the scene and successfully contained the fire, preventing further damage to the biology laboratory and nearby structures. Several important files and records were rescued during the operation.

Hassan Adekunle, spokesperson for the Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed the incident and noted that the Director of the service, Alabi Muhammed, advised institutions and the public to avoid indiscriminate bush burning, particularly near school environments. He further urged schools to implement safe vegetation clearance, maintain buffer zones around buildings, store sensitive documents properly, and equip facilities with basic firefighting tools to mitigate potential losses.

The Kwara State Fire Service reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property throughout the state.
