Residents of Akure, the capital of Ondo State, are experiencing a notable decrease in the prices of various food items as the festive season approaches…READ MORE…
Market research conducted by The Nation reveals that the cost of a bag of garri has significantly fallen from ₦55,000 to ₦35,000. Similarly, a basket of tomatoes is now priced at ₦60,000, down from ₦80,000.
Additionally, the price of a 50kg bag of beans has seen a considerable drop from ₦250,000 to ₦130,000.
Other staples have also recorded minor price reductions. A carton of spaghetti, which previously sold for ₦35,000, is now available for ₦23,000, while the cost of a 50kg bag of rice has slightly decreased from ₦93,000 to ₦90,000.
However, not all food items are experiencing price declines. The cost of palm oil has surged, with a 25-litre keg now priced at ₦54,000, up from ₦37,000. Additionally, the price of rodo pepper has dramatically increased from ₦15,000 to ₦45,000.
Despite the rising costs of some items, the overall drop in food prices is a positive development for many households, especially as they prepare for the festive period.
Economic analysts have emphasized the importance of ongoing interventions to stabilize prices, particularly for essential goods that are seeing substantial increases.
Traders and consumers in Akure remain hopeful that this downward trend in prices will extend to other commodities in the upcoming weeks.
