I Don’t Want The Senate” — Alex Otti Reveals Plans After Abia Governorship

Otti made the disclosure on Thursday in Umuahia while speaking about his political future beyond his tenure as governor of the state.

The governor, who is seeking re-election in the 2027 Abia State governorship election and emerged unopposed as the Labour Party’s candidate, said he had no intention of pursuing a seat in the Senate or any other elective office after leaving Government House.

According to the governor, his decision to withdraw from active politics is motivated by his desire to create opportunities for younger people to assume leadership responsibilities and contribute to the country’s development.

“Once I finish this one, I will retire. Why do I say so? I want the young people to take over,” Otti said.

He further clarified that he was not interested in extending his political career through another elective position, including a Senate seat.

“I keep saying it, I’m not interested in anything else. I don’t even want to go to the Senate. I’m not interested,” the governor stated.

Otti had previously confirmed his intention to seek a second term in office, explaining that his administration still had unfinished projects and responsibilities to address in Abia State.

His latest remarks indicate that, despite pursuing another term as governor, he does not currently plan to seek an additional elective position after completing his tenure.
