IGP Orders Police To Sh**t Illegal Gun Carriers

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed police officers across the country to take decisive action against individuals found carrying illegal firearms, authorising officers to use force where necessary in line with existing operational guidelines.

According to Ireporter Online, the police chief issued the directive on Friday during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Makurdi, Benue State, as part of efforts to tackle rising insecurity.

Disu stated that law enforcement agencies could no longer afford to adopt a passive approach to policing, stressing that security personnel had paid a heavy price through repeated attacks on officers in the line of duty.

He disclosed that President Bola Tinubu had instructed security agencies to restore peace in Benue State, adding that only duly authorised security personnel are legally permitted to carry firearms.

The IGP warned that the unlawful possession of weapons would no longer be tolerated, noting that officers have been empowered under Force Order 237 to act immediately against armed suspects without waiting for additional approval from superior officers.

He explained that the directive was aimed at protecting the lives of police officers, soldiers and other security operatives who have continued to face deadly attacks while carrying out their duties.

Disu, however, stressed that the fight against insecurity cannot succeed without the support of the public, urging citizens to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information and supporting ongoing efforts to restore law and order.
