Toke Makinwa: I Used My School Fees For My Boyfriend’s Birthday

According to Ireporter Online, the television personality made the revelation during a recent episode of her Toke Moments podcast, which featured reality TV star Beauty Tukura as a guest. Makinwa disclosed that the incident changed her perspective on relationships and is the reason she no longer buys gifts for men she is romantically involved with.

Recounting the experience, she explained that she was dating a man who was ten years older than her while she was still an undergraduate. Determined to make his birthday memorable, she used her university semester’s school fees to organise a special celebration and treated him to a meal at an Italian restaurant in Victoria Island.

She recalled that her boyfriend freely ordered several items from the menu during the outing. However, the celebration ended on a heartbreaking note when they returned to his residence and she found another woman there. Makinwa described the incident as a devastating moment that deeply affected her and influenced her decision never to purchase gifts for romantic partners again.

The media personality also recently shared her views on financial compatibility in relationships during an appearance on the MENtality podcast hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu. She maintained that people are better off dating within their financial bracket, arguing that significant income disparities can create challenges in relationships, particularly for men who are still striving to establish themselves financially.

Makinwa further observed that many men abandon women within their financial class in pursuit of wealthier partners, only to later accuse women of being materialistic when such relationships do not work out.
