Lagos Government Boosts Primary Healthcare Through Intensive Training For Frontline Workers

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to enhance the monitoring and continuous training of frontline health workers in a bid to strengthen primary healthcare delivery across Health District IV.

The announcement was made during the 2025 Annual Management Retreat of Lagos State Health District IV, themed “Reinforcing a motivated and responsive workforce for better healthcare delivery.” The event convened senior officials, including permanent secretaries, department heads, medical officers of health from local governments and local council development areas, unit heads, and other staff to evaluate strategies for improving service delivery in the district’s health facilities.

According to Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, effective healthcare delivery hinges on the performance of frontline workers. She highlighted the need for structured training and consistent monitoring to elevate service quality, praising the district’s management for its dedication to staff development. Dr. Ogunyemi reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that equip health workers with the skills necessary for patient-centered and responsive care.

Dr. Abimbola Bowale, Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District IV, emphasized the importance of discipline and professionalism among health personnel, particularly in time management. He encouraged staff to continually raise standards across primary healthcare centers, noting that diligence and commitment are crucial to transforming the district into a fully functional healthcare service provider.
