PDP Can Clinch Ekiti Governorship if United – Ex-Commissioner

A governorship hopeful on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Mrs. Funmi Ogun, has voiced optimism that the party is well-positioned to win the forthcoming governorship election slated for June 20, 2026 — provided it remains united.

Ogun, a former Commissioner for Works in Ekiti, stated that the PDP’s growing influence across the state was largely due to the dedication of its members, who she said are driven by the electorate’s strong desire for change.

In a statement released on Saturday in Ado Ekiti by her Special Adviser on Media, Oladimeji Atenibiaje, Ogun highlighted that the ongoing mobilisation and grassroots engagement efforts have positioned the PDP as a formidable alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, she expressed concern over the lingering crisis within the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), particularly the tussle over the position of National Secretary, warning that it could derail the party’s chances if not urgently addressed.

“Our mission is to win the 2026 governorship election and deliver transformative governance to the people of Ekiti,” Ogun stressed. “But the unresolved issues within the NWC are worrisome. These distractions could weaken our campaign structure at a crucial time.”

She urged the NWC, under the leadership of Alhaji Iliya Umar Damagun, to swiftly resolve the internal dispute and put the collective interest of the PDP above personal ambitions.

“I appeal to our leaders to find common ground and end this crisis. The PDP is bigger than any individual or faction. A house divided cannot stand, especially with the 2027 general elections fast approaching,” she added.

The PDP has been grappling with internal strife over the status of its National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, a rift that has reportedly deepened divisions within the party, including among some governors and allies of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
