of the Benin-Egbin and Benin-Omotosho 330kV transmission lines.
According to TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kV line, already under repair due to previous vandalism, was again attacked on November 19, 2024. Vandals targeted towers 29 to 31, stealing approximately one-third of the conductor.
Mbah stated that the attack occurred at night and that security measures, including local surveillance, have been put in place to prevent further theft. Repair work is ongoing, with the line nearly 85% restored, despite challenges posed by terrain and flooding.
Earlier this month, another act of vandalism disrupted the Benin-Egbin and Benin-Omotosho lines, affecting 31 towers and causing severe damage. TCN engineers have already begun repair work to prevent further collapse and ensure the stability of the national grid.
These incidents highlight the growing problem of vandalism and theft of Nigeria’s power infrastructure, a serious threat to the country’s energy supply. TCN is calling for increased vigilance from both security forces and local communities to protect power installations.
