Senate Gives NNPCL Boss 10-Day Ultimatum Over Missing ₦200 Trillion

The Senate Committee on Public Accounts has issued a 10-day ultimatum to the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, to respond to 11 critical financial queries related to discrepancies in the company’s audited financial statements.

The committee, chaired by Senator Aliyu Wadada, raised concerns over what it described as alarming and unacceptable irregularities, including over ₦200 trillion in unexplained receivables and undocumented legal and audit expenses spanning from 2017 to 2023.

NNPCL had earlier appealed for a two-month extension to prepare its response, but the Senate Committee rejected the request, emphasizing urgency and accountability.

“We have given them 10 working days. This committee will not entertain delay tactics on issues concerning public funds,” Senator Wadada stated, warning that failure to comply could result in constitutional sanctions.

He further stressed that any disregard for the committee’s directive would be considered contempt of the Senate, affirming the committee’s role in safeguarding public finances.
