Seven Coalition Leaders Interested In Tinubu’s Seat – Ex-ADC Chair

Former National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Nwosu, has revealed that no fewer than seven prominent figures within the opposition coalition are being encouraged by their supporters to run against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking amid widespread speculation that some northern power blocs are backing Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for a one-term arrangement, Nwosu said the coalition remains open and democratic in its approach.

The opposition coalition, led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Obi, recently adopted the ADC as its official platform for the 2027 presidential race.

 Nwosu disclosed in an interview that aside from Obi, supporters of Atiku, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, ex-governors Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna) and Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), as well as Oyo State’s 2023 ADC governorship candidate, Bamidele Ajadi, are all pushing for their leaders to contest.

“There are people who want Aregbesola to run. Some are pushing for Dr Ganiyu Bamidele Ajadi, others for Amaechi, and many still want Atiku. El-Rufai has his own plan, and even Sule Lamido is interested. I have been part of these coalition talks, so I know the key figures,” Nwosu said.

He stressed that the emerging coalition is built on inclusiveness, noting, “That’s the beauty of this new party we are growing. The selection process will be open and transparent.”

As the coalition gathers momentum, Nwosu pointed out that conversations among supporters of various presidential hopefuls are intensifying, while the major parties continue to lose ground.

“This is bigger than any political party in Nigeria. About 95 percent of PDP’s structure has already collapsed into this coalition, bringing all their grassroots networks. Over 35 percent of APC members and nearly 80 percent from Labour Party are also moving to our side,” he claimed.

Nwosu concluded by saying the coalition’s mission transcends mere political power, aiming instead to “rescue Nigeria from ICU and restore it to global prominence.”
