Sh**ck And Outrage: Retired DSP Slams N1.7M Gratuity, N40K Pension After Three Decades Of Service

A retired Deputy Superintendent of Police, Esther Marcus, has expressed her frustration with the low pension and gratuity she received after dedicating 35 years to the Nigeria Police Force. In a video that has since gone viral, Marcus revealed that after retiring in 2018, she received just N1.7 million as gratuity and a monthly pension of only N40,000.

She called out the government’s “dirty contributory pension scheme,” emphasizing the disparity between the treatment of lower-ranking officers and their senior counterparts who have been exempted from the scheme. Despite repeated appeals to the Federal Government, she claimed their concerns have fallen on deaf ears, even as other security agencies such as the Army and DSS have been exempted from such pension issues.

Marcus further questioned how police officers are expected to survive on meager pensions, especially when faced with mounting personal and professional challenges. She vowed to continue fighting for fair treatment, promising to raise the issue to the national stage and hold the government accountable for what she deemed an unjust system.
