Showdown In The Senate: Senator Natasha Dragged Before Panel Over Seat Controversy

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has announced that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, will face a disciplinary panel over her protest regarding the reassignment of her seat in the red chamber…….READ MORE

Akpabio made this announcement during Tuesday’s plenary session, revealing that the matter had been referred to the Senate Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions Committee for further review.

The controversy erupted after Akpoti-Uduaghan’s seat was relocated from its original position within the minority section to the back row without prior consultation. The senator openly objected to the change, leading to heated discussions in the chamber.

Reports indicate that the seat reallocation was linked to the defection of some lawmakers, necessitating a restructuring of seating arrangements. However, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s refusal to accept the change was perceived as a breach of Senate protocols.

While addressing the chamber, Akpabio emphasized the need for order and adherence to legislative rules, stating:

“There is a motion before us to refer the entire matter to our Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions Committee for investigation. The committee will report back to us accordingly. Let it also be noted that during the initial discussions on this issue, our distinguished colleague was not even speaking from her designated seat.”

The Senate’s decision signals a firm stance on maintaining order and discipline within the legislative body. The outcome of the panel’s investigation is expected to be presented to the chamber in due course.
