THE CORRUPT’S PROTECTION RACKET: Nigerians Stand By Their Corrupt Leaders

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ola Olukoyede, has lamented that Nigerians tend to defend corrupt leaders when they are being prosecuted.

Olukoyede made this remark while hosting officials of the Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC) in Abuja on Friday. He stated that Nigerians claim to hate corruption, but when high-ranking individuals are being investigated, the same people rally behind them in support.

The anti-graft agency boss emphasized that public awareness and engagement are crucial to the EFCC’s success, and that collaboration with organizations like the CCC will foster strategic communication and public support.

Olukoyede also highlighted his agency’s focus on prevention over enforcement, and the importance of leveraging intelligence gathering in their work.
