Victory Against Vandalism: Troops Confiscate 176 Drums Of Stolen Petroleum
Nigerian Army troops from the 6 Division, along with other security forces, are intensifying efforts to combat oil theft in the Niger Delta. Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, shared the details in a statement. Highlights of these operations include the destruction of nine illegal refining sites in Obiafu, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, Rivers State, and the interception of 176 cooking drums, numerous pumping machines, and over 60,000 litres of stolen products, including crude oil and Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).
In Asari-Toru LGA, three illegal refining sites and a large boat were also dismantled, recovering 24,000 litres of stolen products. Troops in Degema LGA deactivated illegal sites and intercepted three boats carrying over 16,000 litres of stolen crude and refined products.
Additionally, operations in Ozorchi Forest in Abua/Odual and along Imo River led to the destruction of refining equipment and the recovery of 15,000 litres of stolen goods. Troops thwarted pipeline vandalism attempts and dismantled refining operations in Bayelsa State, including the confiscation of 2,000 litres of stolen crude in Southern Ijaw LGA.
A tanker truck equipped to siphon crude from a pipeline was intercepted in Ethiope East LGA, where troops found a concealed hose connected to the pipeline and apprehended four suspected oil thieves.
In Akwa Ibom State, troops continued patrols in the hinterlands and waterways to discourage criminal activities. Major General Jamal Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding of 6 Division, commended the troops for their efforts and urged them to maintain their vigilance, assuring the public of the military’s commitment to denying criminals any presence in the region.
