APC Slams Kwankwaso, Says Former Kano Governor Has Lost Grip On Nigerian Politics

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has strongly criticized former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, over his recent comments about monitoring the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Ireporter Online, the ruling party described Kwankwaso’s remarks as unnecessary and misleading, arguing that the former governor has lost touch with Nigeria’s current political realities. The APC claimed that Kwankwaso no longer holds significant influence within the nation’s political space.

Speaking on Sunday, the Kano State Public Relations Officer of the APC, Hon. Ahmad Aruwa, said the statements credited to Kwankwaso reflected confusion and a lack of political direction. He asserted that the former governor had already suffered electoral defeat and was struggling to remain relevant in national discourse.

Aruwa further questioned Kwankwaso’s authority to make comments about INEC, insisting that he is neither the legitimate leader of the NNPP nor an officially recognized candidate of any political party. He argued that this undermined the credibility of Kwankwaso’s claims and raised doubts about the intent behind them.

The APC spokesman stated that the party had already concluded strategic preparations for upcoming elections in Kano State and expressed satisfaction with the performance of the electoral commission so far. He added that the party remained confident in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership style, noting that the administration’s emphasis on professionalism in governance had strengthened trust in democratic institutions.

Aruwa also referenced previous legal battles involving the APC at the Supreme Court as evidence that Nigeria’s electoral and judicial systems are fair and functional, even when outcomes do not favor the ruling party. He accused Kwankwaso of attempting to erode public confidence in INEC due to fear of electoral loss and urged Nigerians to disregard what he described as politically motivated statements.

Kwankwaso had made his remarks during the NNPP national convention held in Abuja, where party executives were re-elected. Addressing party members and INEC representatives at the event, the former senator commended the commission for its role in sustaining democracy but stressed the need for continued vigilance ahead of future elections.

The APC maintained that it remains fully prepared for the 2027 polls and called on Nigerians to trust INEC’s professionalism, warning against efforts aimed at undermining the credibility of the electoral process for political advantage.
