Breaking: Ekiti State Approves N806-Million For Power Projects To Enhance-Electricity Supply (Details)

The Ekiti State Government has greenlit a substantial sum of N806,409,775 million to bolster electricity infrastructure across the state. This announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, following the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Biodun Oyebanji in Ado-Ekiti.

Olatunbosun underscored the state government’s commitment to addressing the issue of erratic power supply and expanding access to electricity across new areas connected to the national grid. The approved funds will facilitate immediate extensions, rehabilitation of the 33KV network, and installation of transformers in several towns and villages within Ekiti State.

Breaking down the allocations, Olatunbosun detailed that N147.5 million will go towards extending electricity and installing transformers in Ibukun Oluwa/Asun Gbowoola and adjoining communities on Afao Road, Ado-Ekiti. Additionally, N60 million has been earmarked for similar projects in Faglo Area, Basiri, Ado-Ekiti, and for transformer installations in Isan and Usi Ekiti.

Furthermore, the State Executive Council awarded N162.8 million for the extension of the 33KV network from Ilawe to Igbara Odo, with an additional N232.8 million allocated for extending the 33KV network from Aramoko to Ijero-Ekiti.

All projects are set to be executed expeditiously through direct labor by the State Electricity Board, with a targeted completion timeframe of three months.

In reaffirming the government’s commitment to providing reliable electricity to all communities in Ekiti State, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko, the Commissioner for Infrastructures and Public Utilities, highlighted the strategic importance of these initiatives. He emphasized the goal of ensuring that electricity supply to Ekiti towns originates within the state itself, thereby enhancing local infrastructure and promoting sustainable development.

“We are working towards a scenario where every town in Ekiti State receives electricity sourced from within the state. This includes reconfiguring existing lines to optimize efficiency and expanding transformer coverage across communities,” Commissioner Aluko affirmed.

The approval of these funds marks a significant step towards achieving enhanced electricity accessibility and reliability across Ekiti State, underlining the government’s proactive approach to infrastructure development and community welfare.
