This decision follows separate meetings held by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) on Monday.

The oil marketers are advocating for a reduction in the pump price of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) produced by the Dangote refinery, ranging from N700 to N850 per liter. They argue that the current price of N1,225 per liter is high considering that the product is locally produced in Nigeria, eliminating import costs.

Highlighting the logistical challenges of transporting the product from Lagos, where the refinery is situated, the marketers emphasize the need for the refinery to factor in these costs when determining the selling price. They also point out that some importers are selling diesel at N1,250 per liter, further justifying the call for a price reduction by the Dangote refinery.

The oil marketers underscore that diesel produced domestically does not incur additional expenses associated with importing the commodity, such as vessel costs and import charges. They anticipate the intervention of the Federal Government in addressing these concerns and urge the refinery to adjust its pricing accordingly.
