The statement explained that Akorede had been convicted for a similar offense earlier this year. He was arrested on December 12, 2023, while attempting to export 4.90 kg of tramadol and 2.10 kg of Rohypnol to South Africa from the Lagos airport’s export shed.

Following his conviction, he received a two-year prison sentence from a Federal High Court in Lagos, which included an option to pay a fine of N900,000. After paying the fine, he was released but soon returned to engage in the same illegal activities.
