While en route to an event, the governor’s convoy encountered these defiant riders, prompting him to instruct his security team to arrest them.

Although many riders abandoned their motorcycles and passengers upon spotting the governor’s convoy, a lance corporal in the Army was arrested with his bike.

During the arrest, the soldier claimed his status as an officer, but Governor Sanwo-Olu countered that this was precisely the reason for his arrest.

He expressed the view that military officers tend to believe Nigeria is still under military dictatorship, emphasizing the need for a country governed by the rule of law and equality before it.

Falana asserted his commitment to pressuring the Lagos State Government, through the human rights community, to prosecute the soldier.

He cited previous incidents involving soldiers attacking police officers and the controversial Wadume case, where soldiers were charged but the case was withdrawn by former Attorney-General Malami, resulting in promotions for the soldiers involved.
