FG and EU Collaborate To Strengthen €1.3 Billion Trade Investments
The Federal Government of Nigeria and the European Union (EU) have initiated high-level discussions aimed at enhancing economic cooperation between the two entities.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Finance, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, met with the EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Gautier Mignot, in Abuja. Ambassador Mignot proposed establishing a formal trade and investment dialogue framework to unlock new opportunities for collaboration, particularly in areas such as infrastructure development, green finance, and sustainable initiatives.
The discussions also highlighted the EU’s €1.3 billion investment portfolio in Nigeria, recent engagements with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the Global Gateway Investment Strategy, which seeks to strengthen economic ties between Africa and Europe.
Minister Edun expressed support for the initiative, reiterating Nigeria’s commitment to macroeconomic stability, investor-friendly reforms, and digital transformation. He outlined ongoing efforts to improve the ease of doing business and projected a GDP growth rate of 4.6% by 2025, alongside a rising trade surplus as evidence of Nigeria’s economic progress.
Additionally, the meeting addressed strategic projects such as the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline and the National Single Window trade system, both of which align with Nigeria’s goals for fiscal consolidation and infrastructure modernization.
