Nation Grieves With Tinubu: President Cancels Official Plans To Honor Stampede Victims

President Bola Tinubu has canceled all official events in Lagos on Saturday, including attending the 2024 Lagos Boat Regatta, to honor the victims of tragic stampedes in Abuja and Anambra State. The president’s decision was made after being briefed on the devastating events,

which claimed many lives and left many others injured.

Tinubu expressed his deep sorrow over the losses, offering condolences and prayers for those affected. He called for immediate implementation of strict crowd control measures at events to prevent such tragedies, emphasizing that these incidents were preventable if proper safety protocols were followed.

He also extended his support to the organizers of the Boat Regatta, wishing them a successful and safe festival, while urging authorities to enforce stronger safety measures at large public gatherings. This decision comes just days after the loss of 35 children in a similar incident in Ibadan.
