The governor made this call on Saturday during the opening ceremony of a two-day induction workshop titled Democratic Governance and Sustainable Grassroots Development, held at Dankani Guest Inn, Sokoto. Represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Dutsinmari, the governor emphasized the importance of the workshop in enhancing the capacity of local government leaders to effectively implement policies and promote sustainable growth at the grassroots.

“This workshop offers an opportunity for local government chairmen to strengthen their leadership abilities. I urge you to take the knowledge gained here and apply it in your communities, ensuring the benefits reach those you serve,” Governor Idris said.

Organized in collaboration with Direct Contact Communication Ltd, the workshop aims to reform local government administration and promote effective governance. Governor Idris commended the organizers for selecting Kebbi for the training, which he described as crucial for the success of local government leadership.

In his address, Prof. Mustapha N. Malam, Director of the Lead Consultant, praised the governor for his support and highlighted the importance of the workshop for council chairmen. He stressed that the program would empower local leaders with vital knowledge to improve service delivery and bring democracy closer to the people. The workshop also comes at a critical time when local governments are preparing for enhanced financial autonomy, further emphasizing the need for robust leadership and effective governance.

Prof. Malam noted that the training is particularly valuable as it equips participants with the tools necessary to address the challenges of governance at the grassroots. “This workshop is designed to make you better policy drivers, helping you to effectively tackle local issues and drive progress in your communities,” he added.

The workshop featured diverse presentations, including Overview of Nigeria’s Development and Policies from Independence to Date by Prof. Yahya Baba and Managing Local Government Council as the 3rd Tier of Government by Dr. Ibrahim Baba Shatambaya.

With such capacity-building initiatives, Kebbi State aims to strengthen its local governance system, paving the way for improved service delivery and greater development across the state.
