Dr. Zaid Abubakar, Executive Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service, revealed this initiative during a presentation at the ongoing High-Level Retreat in Kaduna. He clarified that the reform is not about increasing taxes, but rather about improving collection and compliance.

Kano’s projected revenue for 2025 includes generating over N20 billion every quarter, thanks to a new tax collection model aimed at boosting revenue across various sectors. This strategy will play a crucial role in enabling the administration to fulfill its campaign promises, including major infrastructure and development projects.

The state government has already made key adjustments, including the replacement of the former revenue service chairman, resulting in improved performance in late 2024. The new tax reforms are expected to ensure sustainable economic growth and provide the resources needed for Kano’s development initiatives.
