Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has denied reports that he entered into an agreement with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to secure victory in the recently concluded governorship election.

According to Ireporter Online, Adeleke said the ADC was not part of the political coalition that backed his re-election bid before or during the election.

The governor’s clarification followed comments attributed to the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who reportedly said the party worked with the Accord Party to prevent the All Progressives Congress from winning the poll.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke maintained that there was no agreement between him and the ADC at any stage of the electoral process.

He attributed his victory to God and the people of Osun State, saying voters demonstrated their confidence in his administration by supporting him at the polls.

The governor also expressed appreciation to the political groups and individuals who supported his campaign, but specifically stated that the ADC was not part of the alliance.

Adeleke said, “I commend political partners who went all out to make Saturday a victory day for all Osun people. But we must clarify for the sake of history that ADC was never part of the alliance.”

He maintained that his re-election was supported by a broad coalition of political partners who worked towards the success of his campaign.

The governor, however, said the conclusion of the election should mark the beginning of a new phase in the state, stressing that political differences would no longer influence his relationship with residents.

He pledged to govern all residents of Osun State regardless of their political affiliation, religion or ethnic background.
