Peter Obi Is Also An Illiterate’ – Raimi Fires Back At NDC Candidate

Taofiq Raimi, a development and economic expert, has criticised the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, accusing him of making sweeping statements about Nigeria’s institutions and describing his remarks as an example of faulty generalisation.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Raimi reacted to comments previously made by Obi concerning the state of Nigeria’s electoral and judicial systems. Obi had expressed concern over the roles allegedly played by some academics, lawmakers and legal practitioners in weakening democratic institutions and facilitating electoral malpractice.

According to Ireporter Online, Obi made the remarks during the 2026 Goodluck Jonathan Foundation Democracy Dialogue in Bauchi, where he raised concerns about the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process and the effectiveness of its institutions.

Raimi faulted Obi’s reference to university professors, arguing that the former Anambra State governor should not generalise the conduct of individuals to an entire professional group.

He said Obi’s statement amounted to what he described as the “fallacy of unqualified generalisation,” stressing that misconduct could be found in different professions and should not be attributed collectively to everyone within a particular field.

Raimi said, “Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of NDC has continued to generalise. You can’t say professors. He has committed a fallacy called fallacy of unqualified generalisation. He said professors, how many of them? There are bad eggs everywhere, even in journalism, even in acting.”

The analyst also took issue with Obi’s suggestion that some professors could be involved in helping people he described as illiterates attain political office.

Raimi drew a connection between Obi’s remarks and his own political ambitions, arguing that Obi’s decision to obtain nomination forms and participate in the 2027 presidential race made the statement questionable.

He added, “Peter Obi talked about professors helping illiterates. That also means he is an illiterate because he himself has just collected form to contest as an aspirant of his party.”

Raimi’s comments have added another dimension to the growing political debate surrounding Obi’s assessment of Nigeria’s democratic institutions ahead of the 2027 general election.
