PDP was never his personal desire, but rather a move motivated by his commitment to Obaseki.

Shaibu went on to share that his loyalty to Obaseki had led to his departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his subsequent return to the APC after reconciling with his former political mentor, Adams Oshiomhole, the ex-governor of Edo State. He admitted that his earlier departure had strained his relationship with Oshiomhole, but the reunion has helped him rebuild political alliances and garner more support.

Despite facing criticism from PDP leaders, Shaibu remains firm in his belief that his political decisions were made out of respect for Obaseki. He concluded, “I left the APC because of Obaseki, and I returned to the APC for the same reason—because of him.”
