Sheikh Idris Abdul’aziz Dutsen Tanshi, a respected Islamic cleric and the Chief Imam of Dutsen Tanshi Jummaat Mosque in Bauchi, has passed away after a long battle with an undisclosed illness. He died in Bauchi shortly after returning from medical treatment in India.

His close disciple, Abdulhakeem Shaaban Baban Keke, confirmed the news, stating that the cleric’s death occurred on Thursday night. Despite his illness, Tanshi remained devoted to his scholarly work, earning the title “Dr. Tauhidi” due to his deep knowledge and efforts in promoting monotheism and the Sunnah.

Tanshi was known for his strong stance against religious innovations or novelties that lacked a basis in the Quran or Sunnah, a principle known as Bid’ah. His teachings, delivered with clarity and conviction, shaped the understanding of Islam for many across Nigeria and beyond.

The cleric’s absence from leading sermons during the last Ramadan and Eid prayers was deeply felt by his followers.
