Sanusi Cautions Kano Youths Against Reprisal Attacks Following Edo Killings
The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has issued a stern warning to the youths in Kano, urging them not to carry out reprisal attacks on innocent non-indigenes in the state in response to the tragic killings of 16 northern travelers in Edo State.
Sanusi, who also served as the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), made the call during his sermon after leading the two-rakat Eid-el-Fitr prayer at the Kofar Mata Eid ground…READ MORE…
He emphasized that such violent reprisals would only escalate tensions and lead to further harm. “We received reports yesterday (Saturday evening) that some youths are planning to launch reprisal attacks on non-indigenes following the killings. We are advising them not to carry out such attacks,” Sanusi stated.
The Emir appealed to the youths to refrain from taking matters into their own hands, stressing the importance of maintaining law and order. He also called on traditional leaders to remain vigilant and to play an active role in preventing unrest.
Furthermore, Sanusi urged the relevant authorities to ensure justice for the victims, insisting that those responsible for the horrific act must be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.
He also reminded the Muslim community to carry forward the moral lessons learned during Ramadan and to avoid returning to sinful behavior.
Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, accompanied by his Deputy Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, former Deputy Governor Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, along with other commissioners and aides, attended the Eid prayers.
In a similar appeal, the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, also called for swift action against those responsible for the killings in Edo. In his Sallah message, Bayero demanded that the perpetrators of the mob attack and the subsequent killings be brought to justice without delay.
