Shettima Returns Early From Leave, Resumes Official Duties

Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Nigeria and resumed his official responsibilities after cutting short his two-week vacation by two days.

According to IREPORTER Online, Shettima arrived in Abuja on Tuesday evening, August 18, after spending nearly two weeks outside the country.

Two senior officials attached to the Vice President confirmed his return and resumption of duties. One of the officials simply stated that Shettima returned on Tuesday evening, while another said his office had been expecting him and confirmed that he had already resumed work.

Despite his return to the country, Shettima was absent from Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House in Abuja. The meeting was presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa.

Shettima’s early return also coincided with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s announcement of the commencement of campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Vice President had commenced his vacation on August 6 after receiving approval from President Tinubu. The break marked his first official leave since the Tinubu-Shettima administration assumed office in May 2023.

When the vacation was announced, Shettima’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, explained that the period was intended to give the Vice President an opportunity for study, reflection and intellectual renewal.

Nkwocha also said the break would allow Shettima to assess ongoing government programmes and gain broader perspectives on emerging policy developments both within Nigeria and internationally.

He noted that the exercise was designed to prepare the Vice President for the next phase of implementing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
