Police Reveal Who Attacked Adeleke’s Convoy: ‘Eye Confraternity Were After Davido
The Osun State Police Command has disclosed that Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, was allegedly the target of the attack that disrupted Governor Ademola Adeleke’s convoy in Osogbo on Wednesday.
According to IREPORTER Online, the incident occurred shortly after Governor Adeleke visited the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, following his receipt of the Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Davido, who is the governor’s nephew and had actively participated in the election campaign, had accompanied Adeleke to the INEC office and later to the monarch’s palace.
The incident reportedly triggered panic in the Oja Oba area as sporadic gunshots were heard for several minutes, with the governor’s security personnel responding to the attackers.
The Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, said preliminary investigations indicated that members of the Eye Confraternity were allegedly attempting to gain access to Davido when they were stopped by his security team.
According to the police, the confrontation subsequently attracted other suspected gang members in the area, who temporarily blocked the palace entrance and disrupted the movement of the governor’s convoy.
Ojelabi identified one of the suspects as Adebayo Taoreed, popularly known as “Small Rugged,” whom he described as an ex-convict and suspected member of the Eye Confraternity.
He said the suspect allegedly attempted to approach Davido but was resisted by members of the singer’s security team, resulting in a confrontation that escalated.
The police spokesman further disclosed that a 60-year-old man identified as Tajudeen Yusuf was shot during the ensuing violence.
According to him, the suspects later fled the area but allegedly shot Yusuf at Itaolokan in Osogbo. Police officers who arrived at the scene found him critically injured and rushed him to the University Teaching Hospital in Osogbo, where he was pronounced dead.
The police command has commenced a full-scale investigation and intensified efforts to identify and arrest those responsible for the incident.
The Commissioner of Police in charge of the election, CP Samuel Etaifo, condemned the violence and assured residents that the command would deploy all available resources to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The police also appealed to members of the public with useful information about the incident to contact the nearest police station or the command through its official channels.
Authorities urged residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands as investigations continue.
