Tinubu Gets Major Boost As All Southeast Governors Back Re-Election

According to Ireporter Online, Uzodinma made the disclosure during a meeting with members of the Imo State Elders Council and traditional rulers in Owerri.

The governor stated that the decision was reached after evaluating the impact of the Tinubu administration in the Southeast, particularly in the areas of infrastructure development, economic initiatives and federal projects across the region.

Uzodinma explained that despite political differences, the Southeast governors chose to work with the President because they believe the administration’s programmes align with the interests of the region and the broader “Project Nigeria” vision.

“We, the five governors of the South-East, have reviewed all options and decided that we will work with President Bola Tinubu because we want to be part of the Project Nigeria,” he said.

The Imo governor added that the governors were planning a joint visit to President Tinubu as part of efforts to strengthen their partnership with the Federal Government.

He highlighted the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC) as one of the major achievements of the Tinubu administration, describing it as a long-standing demand from the region that had remained unresolved for decades.

Uzodinma noted that the President signed the South East Development Commission Act into law in July 2024, inaugurated its governing board in 2025 and supported the commencement of its operations.

The governor also praised the rehabilitation and restart of commercial activities on the Port Harcourt–Aba rail line, describing it as a significant move towards reconnecting the Southeast with Nigeria’s national railway network.

He further commended the approval of the $3 billion Eastern Rail Corridor project, which is expected to link Port Harcourt through the Southeast to Maiduguri, saying the initiative would promote trade and regional integration.

On road development, Uzodinma highlighted several federal infrastructure projects, including access roads connected to the Second Niger Bridge and major routes linking communities across Anambra, Imo, Abia and other states.

He also mentioned the approval of the Otuocha–Anam–Abaji Road and the Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube/Okigwe Junction Road, noting that the projects would improve economic activities and transportation within the region.

Beyond physical infrastructure, the governor said the Southeast had benefited from national policies introduced by the Tinubu administration, including increased allocations to states, student loan initiatives, security improvements and economic reforms aimed at reducing business challenges.

Uzodinma maintained that the region’s decision was based on performance and development rather than political considerations, insisting that the impact of the Federal Government’s interventions was visible across the Southeast.
