Umahi indicated that Keisha had been suspended due to her failure to properly communicate her decision to close the Independence Bridge. In an interview with Arise News, the former Governor of Ebonyi State stated that Keisha did not inform the Ministry’s permanent secretary or him prior to taking this action.

Umahi expressed concern regarding the closure process, stating, “It was expected that she report in writing to the Permanent Secretary and, given the emergency, also notify me via WhatsApp. While reporting to the Permanent Secretary, she should have copied me as well. This protocol was not followed, leading to her temporary suspension.”

The Minister noted that Keisha eventually presented evidence of a significant crack in the bridge, highlighting the potential for a serious traffic accident if it had not been closed. He acknowledged, “Had the bridge remained open, the risk of a major accident would have increased, endangering lives.”

Upon reviewing the situation, the Ministry concurred that closing the bridge was necessary, despite the procedural oversight in communication. Umahi mentioned that Keisha had also informed the public about the closure a few days in advance. After considering all factors, the Ministry decided to recall her, recognizing it as an honest error. Keisha has since resumed her duties.
