See What PDP’s Ikpeazu Told LP’s Otti After He Defeated His Party’s Candidate In Governorship Election In Abia
Okezie Ikpeazu, Governor of Abia State, has congratulated Alex Otti, the Labour Party candidate and winner of the state’s governorship election on March 18.
In a statement issued shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Otti the winner of the election, the incumbent said the Labour Party candidate fought a long battle over a long period of time and should be commended for his perseverance and resilience.
The governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain also urged all Otti’s opponents, including his party’s candidate, Okey Ahiwe, not to use court cases to distract the incoming governor.
Otti easily defeated his main rivals, including the PDP’s Ahiwe and the Young Peoples Party’s Enyinnaya Nwafor (YPP). Otti received 175,467 votes, Ahiwe received 88,529 votes, and Nwafor received 28,972 votes. The LP candidate also won 10 of the state’s 17 local government areas, while the PDP received six and the YPP received one.

Otti won on his third try. In the 2015 and 2019 elections, he ran as a candidate for the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka, Ikpeazu said the governor-victory elect’s must be viewed as a higher call to serve the people of Abia State.
He also praised the other candidates who ran in the election, particularly the PDP candidate, for their tenacity. He advised the candidates not to use court cases to distract the incoming governor.
“Having myself spent about three and half years in different courts and having experienced first hand, the distraction such cases can cause a leader, I appeal to every candidate in this election not to distract the incoming administration with court cases, so that they will settle down and deal with the very demanding business of governance,” Ikpeazu was quoted as saying.
“Let us break this negative trend of subjecting our Governors to endless litigations and allow them to concentrate on providing good governance.”
Ikpeazu assured Otti that he would take all necessary steps to ensure a smooth transition.
