According to the police, on Monday, the group orchestrated an attack on the Okigwe Correctional Service in Imo State, resulting in the death of a police inspector, the abduction of another officer, and the escape of seven inmates.

State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Henry Okoye, revealed these details to the press in Owerri, emphasizing the severity of the incident.

The attack reportedly took place at the farm settlement of the Correctional Service in Umualomoke, located in the Okigwe area of the state.

Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, visited the scene to assess the situation firsthand. He promptly deployed the Command’s Special Tactical Squad, coordinating efforts with the military and other sister security agencies to apprehend the suspected IPOB/ESN members responsible for the attack.

In a statement, the police detailed the nature of the assault, attributing it to the alleged activities of IPOB/ESN elements. They outlined the events, including the release of seven inmates, the abduction of the officer in charge of the farm settlement, and the tragic death of a police inspector.

CP Danjuma urged the public to assist law enforcement by providing any relevant information that could lead to the apprehension of the perpetrators. He assured the people of Imo State that the police were actively addressing the situation and implementing measures to prevent future occurrences.
