The appointment was officially confirmed in a statement on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

Speaking after submitting the report, Jega emphasized the committee’s position that both ranching and open grazing should coexist in the short term to allow for increased awareness and the development of necessary infrastructure before transitioning to full-scale ranching. The committee also recommended the adoption of modern technologies in livestock production to enhance the sector’s efficiency.

In October 2024, President Tinubu reaffirmed his confidence in the newly established Livestock Development Ministry, emphasizing its potential to transform the sector. He made these remarks during a Stakeholders’ Consultative Workshop on Livestock Reforms held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where over 350 industry stakeholders gathered to discuss opportunities in the sector. Tinubu also highlighted growing interest from foreign investors eager to explore Nigeria’s livestock industry.

This appointment further underscores the administration’s commitment to addressing livestock-related challenges and fostering sustainable agricultural development in Nigeria.
