AGN Announces Nationwide Celebration Of International Actors Day

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has announced plans for a nationwide celebration of International Actors Day on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, joining the global creative community in honouring actors and recognising their contributions to the motion picture industry.

The celebration is expected to spotlight the talent, dedication and sacrifices of actors while promoting their welfare, professional development and unity within the industry. It will also provide an opportunity for stakeholders to reflect on challenges facing actors and strengthen efforts toward building a more sustainable and competitive creative sector.

In Nigeria, the occasion is expected to highlight the significant role actors have played in the growth and international recognition of Nollywood. Through their performances and storytelling, Nigerian actors have continued to project the country’s culture, heritage and identity to audiences worldwide while contributing to employment, tourism, investment and the wider creative economy.

As part of the 2026 celebration, the AGN has lined up activities including community service and outreach programmes, social networking engagements, actors’ hangouts, industry interactions, goodwill initiatives and other programmes aimed at promoting camaraderie, professional networking and the welfare of actors.

The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Alhaji Abubakar Sanusi Yakubu, commended Nigerian actors for their commitment and sacrifices toward the development of Nollywood.

He noted that the growth of the Nigerian film industry would not have been possible without the talent, courage, resilience and perseverance demonstrated by actors over the years.

Yakubu also called on Nollywood guilds and associations, industry stakeholders, government agencies, corporate organisations, development partners and Nigerians to support the celebration and make the 2026 International Actors Day meaningful.

According to him, the event should extend beyond entertainment by creating opportunities to strengthen solidarity, encourage partnerships, improve actors’ welfare and reinforce the importance of the creative industry to national development.

The guild extended its greetings to Nigerian actors at home and abroad, appreciating their contributions to the global entertainment industry and urging the public to join in celebrating the passion, creativity and enduring spirit of actors.
