Breaking News: House Of Representatives Reshuffles Four Standing-Committees (Details)
The recent reshuffling of four committees in the House of Representatives, announced on Tuesday, June 11, has triggered varied reactions among Nigerians, sparking discussions on the motives behind the changes and their potential impact on legislative proceedings.
One of the notable changes saw Hon. Abdulmumini Jibrin (NNPP, Kano), former chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, being reassigned to the Committee on Housing and Habitat as chairman. This move raised eyebrows among some Nigerians, who questioned the rationale behind Jibrin’s transfer to a different committee.
Similarly, Oluwole Oke’s shift from the Judiciary Committee to Foreign Affairs prompted speculation and debate among citizens, with many expressing curiosity about the factors driving such reassignments.
The reshuffle also saw Hon. Aminu Balele, the former Chairman of the Committee on Housing and Habitat, being moved to the committee on Army as Chairman, while Hon. Abdullah Mamuda was reassigned to the Committee on Judiciary as Chairman.
While Speaker Abbas Tajudeen justified the changes as necessary for the effective and efficient running of the House, some Nigerians remain skeptical, calling for transparency and accountability in the decision-making process. Concerns have been raised about the potential implications of these changes on the legislative agenda and the ability of committees to fulfill their mandates effectively.
Additionally, there have been calls for clearer communication from the House leadership regarding the criteria used in determining the reshuffle and assurances that the changes will not disrupt ongoing legislative work or compromise the integrity of committee operations.
As Nigerians await further developments and assess the impact of these committee changes, there is a growing consensus on the need for greater transparency and inclusivity in the governance processes of the House of Representatives.
