While the identities of the dismissed officers have not been disclosed, their termination followed a recommendation from the EFCC’s disciplinary committee.
According to Daily Trust, the commission’s chairman, Ola Olukoyede, has approved this recommendation.
In addressing the situation, Olukoyede emphasized the EFCC’s dedication to combating corruption, asserting that no employee is exempt from disciplinary action.
Speaking through the commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, Olukoyede stated that the core values of the EFCC are crucial and must be upheld at all times. He remarked, “All allegations against any employee will be thoroughly investigated, including a circulating claim of $400,000 involving an unidentified staff member making accusations against a Sectional Head.”
He added that the commission strives to maintain integrity and eliminate fraudulent individuals from its ranks. Additionally, he cautioned the public about fraudulent impersonators and extortionists using the name of the EFCC’s Executive Chairman to deceive high-profile individuals under investigation.
In a related development, the EFCC’s Makurdi Zonal Directorate has established an Extractive Industry Fraud Section (EIFS) to tackle the growing issue of illegal mining in Benue State and neighboring areas.
The Zonal Commander, Dr. Anselem Ozioko, announced this initiative during a briefing at the EFCC’s Makurdi office and revealed that the commission has achieved 10 convictions following a crackdown on illegal mining activities. Ozioko highlighted the widespread presence of illegal mining sites in Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Taraba states, emphasizing that the new unit will ensure that offenders are brought to justice.
