“63 persons were arrested yesterday by the officials of Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps #LAGESCOfficial(KAI) at different locations in the state for crossing the highway without using the pedestrian bridge, and street trading,” Wahab stated.
The operation primarily targeted key areas such as Oshodi Oke, Ile Epo, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and Ajah.
These arrests were made in response to the dangers and disruptions caused by improper highway crossings and unauthorized commercial activities. The crackdown underscores the government’s continuous efforts to enforce discipline among residents for their safety and the well-being of the community.
A notable aspect of this enforcement drive was the apprehension of 13 individuals at Oshodi Oke, specifically targeted for disregarding the pedestrian bridge.
This initiative aligns with a broader campaign by the Lagos State Government, which, in February, strongly condemned jaywalking and emphasized its legal consequences.
The individuals arrested will face legal repercussions under the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Protection Law 2017, a legislative framework designed to safeguard public health and maintain order in the bustling urban areas of the state.
