Reputation On The Line: Ohanaeze Demands Accountability From Alex Ikwechegh After Violent Incident

In a statement by Ohanaeze’s factional Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the organization expressed disappointment in Ikwechegh’s conduct, describing it as harmful to the Southeast’s reputation. Isiguzoro called upon the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to question the lawmaker, warning that unchecked behavior of this nature could set a troubling precedent, weakening the rule of law and diminishing public trust in elected officials.

The statement from Ohanaeze reads:

“Ohanaeze stands firm in its commitment to justice, respect, and the integrity of the Igbo people. We are deeply disturbed by the unacceptable conduct shown by Honorable Alex Ikwechegh, the House Representative for Aba North and South, in a violent incident involving Mr. Abuwatseya, an Uber driver, in Abuja.

“This incident, marked by threats and physical aggression, endangers lives and tarnishes the Southeast’s image. Such actions are entirely contrary to the values we hold dear as Igbo people—respect, community, and protection of the vulnerable.

“Allowing such behavior unchecked threatens the rule of law and erodes public trust in elected officials. Public servants must be held to the highest standards, especially when they hold authority over others.”
