Police Arrest Officer Who Killed Abia Businessman For Failing To Give Bribe
The Police Command in Abia State has confirmed the arrest of one of its operatives following the alleged killing of a businessman in Aba. According to reports, despite having valid vehicle particulars and a driver’s license, Okocha was demanded a bribe by the officers on patrol duty. When he refused, he was fatally shot. Okocha hailed from the Abiriba community in Ohafia Local Government Area of the state.
Abia State Police spokesperson, ASP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Saturday, identifying the suspect as Corporal Obagi Njok from the Abayi Police Division. Chinaka assured that necessary disciplinary measures would be taken after investigations are concluded.
The statement expressed the regret of the Police authorities over the incident and extended condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones. It emphasized the commitment of the Abia State Police Command to upholding professionalism and the rule of law, condemning any act of misconduct or indiscipline among its officers.
