Anioma State Endorsement Not From Us – Ohanaeze Clarifie

was signed by figures such as Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Professor Chubikeya Achokawa, Chief Alexander Chikalue Okemiri, Prince Eze Ozobu, Prof. Obasi Igwe, and Justice Alpha Ikpeama on behalf of Ndigbo.

However, Ohanaeze’s Secretary-General, Okey Emuchay, expressed disappointment with this move, stating that it was unwise for a faction to push for Anioma State creation without considering other pressing demands for new states, including Aba, Adada, Etiti, Orashi, and Orlu.

In a statement, Emuchay clarified that Ohanaeze Ndigbo did not approve or endorse the press release. He emphasized that such decisions should reflect the collective will of the Igbo people, reached through proper consultations and the Igbo cultural consensus.

“We are aware that the Igbo nation will surely be upset by this action,” Emuchay remarked. “The issues concerning Igbo development must be addressed through the Imeobi Ohanaeze and the Ohanaeze General Assembly, where significant matters are deliberated before resolutions are made.”

Emuchay reaffirmed Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s respect for the Anioma movement, led by Senator Ned Nwoko, and recognized his efforts but stressed that the decision to endorse state creation should not be taken lightly, considering other state demands.

He also confirmed that an Imeobi Ohanaeze meeting would soon be held to set an electoral body for the upcoming Ohanaeze election in January 2025. Additionally, Ohanaeze had recently issued a statement rejecting claims of a deep crisis within the organization.

Emuchay concluded with a strong plea for unity, urging all Igbo people to respect the sanctity of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, which represents the heart, culture, and political aspirations of the Igbo nation. He urged everyone to remain calm and avoid actions that could destabilize the organization.
