The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refuted claims circulating on social media that President Bola Tinubu has dismissed its Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

In response, Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, urged the public to disregard these reports, stating, “Please, this is not true.”
The presidency has also dismissed these rumors regarding the alleged replacement of Mahmood Yakubu.
O’tega Ogra, the Senior Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Digital and New Media, took to his X handle to label the information as “fake news,” emphasizing that any official announcements regarding such matters would be made through the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation or another authorized source.
Additionally, Daniel Bwala, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, affirmed on social media that the claims about the dismissal or replacement of the INEC Chairman are false. He clarified that “official actions or decisions of Mr. President are communicated through formal channels and not through rumors.”
