Kano Suspected Serial Killer Voluntarily Surrenders To Police

A 20-year-old suspect, Umar Auwal, also known as Abba Dujal, has voluntarily turned himself in to the Kano State Police Command, confessing to a series of violent crimes across Kano and parts of Jigawa States.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Kano State Command, SP Haruna Kiyawa, Auwal’s surrender followed intensified police crackdowns on criminal hideouts across the state. The operation is part of broader efforts by the command to enhance public safety and maintain law and order.

In his confession, Auwal admitted to stabbing a man known as Boka to death in the Sabon Gari area and stealing his Infinix Hot 40i smartphone, which he later sold for ₦40,000. He also confessed to a similar attack in Kurna Quarters, where he killed another individual and sold a stolen Samsung S26 device for ₦160,000.

Additionally, the suspect claimed responsibility for the murder of a man in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State, from whom he stole and sold a motorcycle for ₦300,000.

The suspect is currently in custody at the Homicide Section of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Kano, where detectives are working to authenticate his statements and investigate any links to other crimes or accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, commended Auwal for turning himself in and urged other individuals involved in criminal activities to do the same. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to rooting out criminal elements from the state.

The police also called on members of the public to support ongoing security operations by providing credible and timely information to assist law enforcement efforts across Kano.
