Manchester City Complete Elliot Anderson Signing In Major Transfer Move
Manchester City have officially completed the signing of England midfielder Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, with the 23-year-old committing his future to the Premier League champions on a five-year contract that runs until June 2031.
According to Ireporter Online, the transfer was completed after City agreed a club-record fee for Anderson, surpassing the amount previously paid for Jack Grealish in 2021. Although the deal was initially expected to become the biggest transfer in British football history, it was later eclipsed by Morgan Rogers’ reported £117 million move from Aston Villa to Chelsea.
Reacting to the move, Anderson admitted he wasted no time in making his decision once Manchester City expressed interest in signing him.
The midfielder said he was determined to seize the opportunity to compete at the highest level and establish himself in the squad upon his arrival in Manchester.
Anderson joined Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United in 2024 for £35 million and quickly established himself as one of the club’s standout performers. He played a key role in helping Forest secure a seventh-place Premier League finish and qualify for European football for the first time in 30 years.
He also enjoyed an outstanding individual campaign, helping Forest reach the Europa League semi-finals while finishing the Premier League season as the player with the most touches and duels won. Anderson further enhanced his reputation by featuring in every match for England during the FIFA World Cup under manager Thomas Tuchel.
The transfer negotiations continued throughout the World Cup before Manchester City and Nottingham Forest reached a final agreement ahead of England’s Group L fixture against Panama.
Anderson now joins a City side under the leadership of Enzo Maresca, who took charge following Pep Guardiola’s departure after a decade in charge of the club.
Speaking about his ambitions, the midfielder said he wanted to be part of a winning culture and was attracted by Manchester City’s sustained success over the past decade.
Manchester City’s Director of Football, Hugo Viana, welcomed the signing, describing Anderson as a midfielder with exceptional energy, work rate, and passing ability. He added that the club believes the England international has the potential to develop into one of Europe’s finest midfielders in the coming years.
