NFF Denies Owing Late Christian Chukwu $128,000 Prior To His Death
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially refuted claims suggesting it owed the late former Super Eagles captain and coach, Christian Chukwu, the sum of $128,000 prior to his passing.
Speaking on behalf of the federation, NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, clarified that no such financial obligation to Chukwu exists in their records. “There is no documentation in our archives indicating any debt owed to Christian Chukwu, fondly referred to as ‘Chairman’,” Sanusi stated.
He further explained that during the first tenure of the NFF administration led by Mr. Amaju Pinnick, a special committee was formed to thoroughly review and verify claims from coaches who were allegedly owed by both past and present NFF leaderships.
“This committee was specifically mandated to authenticate all outstanding claims and ensure immediate payment to verified beneficiaries. From available records, Chukwu served as a coach under the NFF from 2002 until his disengagement in 2005 following a 1-1 World Cup qualifying match against Angola in Kano. At no point has any debt to him been established in our files,” Sanusi added.
Call for Evidence
Sanusi also extended an invitation to anyone who may possess credible proof of financial obligations owed by the NFF to Chukwu—or any other coach—to present such documentation.
“As a responsible and transparent organization, we are fully committed to fulfilling all legitimate financial commitments. Should anyone provide valid evidence of debt, we will settle it without delay,” he assured.
