Television Giants AIT And Channels TV Retract Misleading Report, Offer Public Apology To DSS

AIT, during its News Hour program, issued a retraction and clarified that its initial report, which was based on eyewitness accounts, was incomplete and misrepresented the role of the DSS.

AIT’s statement read: “We apologize to the DSS for the report aired on February 17, 2025, regarding its presence at the Lagos State House of Assembly. The intention was never to malign or discredit the DSS, an institution we respect. Our report, derived from eyewitnesses, may have been misinterpreted, and we regret any embarrassment caused.”

Similarly, Channels Television, during its Politics Today program, also extended an apology. Seun Okinbaloye, the show’s host, explained that the initial footage circulating online inaccurately portrayed the DSS’s involvement, implying an uninvited intrusion.

Okinbaloye clarified that the DSS’s presence was officially requested by the Lagos Assembly Clerk. He further stated, “The term ‘invasion’ was inappropriate, as the DSS was invited, and we apologize for the misleading portrayal.”

The DSS, through former Assistant Director-General Muhammed Ngoshe, expressed hope that the apologies would be formally communicated to the agency.
