The Golden Voice Of Tinubu’s Presidency: Dele Alake’s Influence On Nigerian Politics
By Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah.
As we approach the May 29th inauguration of President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which is only a few days away, May 1st marks an official countdown to the big day.
Tinubu’s victory was the result of his hard work, faith, strategic communication, and political prowess, and it serves as a remarkable case study for political students due to its distinct peculiarities.
The success of the APC was greatly influenced by Dele Alake’s engagement in the campaign. He was in charge of developing the APC’s communication strategy with Nigerians.
Alake’s background as a journalist and his experience in public relations made him the perfect candidate for the job. He was able to identify the issues that resonated with the Nigerian people and helped to craft a message that addressed those concerns.
Dele Alake is known for his contributions to journalism and media in Nigeria. He began working as a journalist in the early 1980s, and subsequently he held the positions of Sunday Concord Editor and Group Political Editor for The Concord Group of Newspapers.
In 1993, Alake became involved in politics when he was appointed as the Adviser on Information to the late Bashorun M.K.O. Abiola, who was running for the presidency. Following the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election, Alake became involved in pro-democracy activism and was a founding member of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
Similar to Jay Jay Okocha, who was so exceptional that he earned a double name recognition, Alake has always been involved in political campaigns, serving as the Media and Communication Director for the Buhari Campaign Organization in 2015, and more recently, being appointed to a similar role in the APC 2023 presidential campaign.
Alake was also a master of social media, which he used to great effect during the campaign. He was able to harness the power of social media to spread the APC’s message and mobilize support for the party. Alake’s social media strategy was so effective that it caught the attention of the international media.
Despite his eventual victory, Alake faced significant hurdles during the campaign, as the PDP and Labour Party were passionate about defeating the APC.
They initiated a misinformation campaign, distributing lies and half-truths about the APC and its presidential candidate, as well as its running mate. Alake and his team had to work relentlessly to repel these attacks and set the record straight.
He was known to be a pain in the neck for the Obidient movement, a group that supported the LP presidential candidate.
Finally, Alake’s efforts were rewarded. Alake was lauded as a hero after the APC won the presidential election. His campaign accomplishment has earned him a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most adept political strategists.
Dele Alake’s tale exemplifies the value of hard work and perseverance. Despite huge obstacles, he was able to assist the APC in winning the Nigerian presidential election. His victory has motivated many young Nigerians to get active in politics and work to make a difference in their country.
Overall, Dele Alake is considered a seasoned journalist and political strategist with a wealth of experience in both fields.
