Video: Sanusi And Bayero Stir Controversy In Kano Emirate With Public Appearances
The tussle for the Kano emirship escalated last week as the two men contending for the throne, Aminu Bayero and Muhammadu Sanusi II, made significant public appearances outside their respective palaces for the first time since the crisis began.
On Thursday, the reinstated Emir, Lamido Sanusi, attended a state government event at the Government House, where fertilizers were distributed to small-holder farmers.
This event, hosted by Governor Abba Yusuf, saw Sanusi’s motorcade pass through the Kofar Nassarawa area, notably near the mini palace where Aminu Bayero resides. Residents warmly greeted Sanusi as his motorcade made its way through the city.
In contrast, on Saturday, the deposed Emir, Aminu Bayero, participated in the annual closing prayer for peace and stability organized by the Tijjaniyya Muslim leaders at Isyaku Rabiu’s residence in Goron Dutse.
Bayero’s motorcade traversed several key routes, including Audu Bako Way, Central Hotel, and Murtala Mohammed Way, attracting significant attention and causing gridlock.
A video capturing Bayero’s procession showed residents and supporters giving him a rousing welcome.
The deposed Emir was accompanied by palace guards and federal security agents.
The public appearances of both emirs have caused a stir among Kano residents.
Lawal Garba, a local, told Premium Times, “It’s today that I came to understand the situation in the emirship tussle. I never thought it would reach this level.”
