Abia Government Plans Revitalization of National War Museum and Ojukwu Bunker for Tourism

Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information, emphasized that this initiative would not only preserve important historical landmarks but also create economic opportunities through tourism. The Abia government has also identified over 55 heritage sites across the state, such as the Ulo Chukwu Cave in Bende and the Mazi Okoro Orji’s Compound in Arochukwu, to further enhance the state’s tourism offerings.

In addition to these developments, the state plans to build a five-star hotel in Umuahia to support the growing tourism sector. Matthew Ekwuribe, the Commissioner for Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, highlighted the state’s natural attractions, including waterfalls, caves, and the Azumini Blue River, which could position Abia as a leading tourism hub.

The National War Museum and Ojukwu Bunker, both significant to Nigeria’s Civil War history, are particularly important to the state’s tourism strategy. If properly developed, these sites are expected to attract visitors from across the country and internationally.
